Things You Must Know When It Comes To Organic Gardening

A smart way to build a healthier diet is to start an organic garden. For best results, however, you need to put in the right amount of effort. You may be curious as to how to start the organic gardening process.

Organic gardening is a safe hobby to share with your children. An organic garden will help your child learn more about plants and insects, and it’s a wonderful bonding time while growing healthy produce.

Once your seeds start sprouting, they do not need as much warmth as they needed before. As your plants grow, you will want to put a little distance between them and heat. If you have plastic films on your containers, remove them. Watch your seeds closely to find the right time to do this.

You should work efficiently, instead of working hard in your garden, to simplify things. Do not spend half an hour looking everywhere for a tool. Before you make a trip to your garden, you should gather all tools and items in advance. Afterwards, be sure to return them to their original storage place. It may be necessary to don a tool belt or cargo pants with extra pockets.

Avoid allowing chores in your organic garden stack up. While you may not be able to spend a lot of time every day in your garden, even little items done daily will stop the mountain of work from growing. Grab a handful of weeds, throw down some mulch, or toss some water on it anytime you walk by.

Laundry Basket

You can use something like a laundry basket to gather all of your produce together when the time comes. You can also use a laundry basket as a strainer. Rinse the produce while it sits in the basket, the extra water will go through the holes in the basket.

Is there a natural way to kill weeds? Try using several newspaper layers to control weeds. Weeds need sun for growth, just like any other plant. With layers of newspaper on them, the weeds are not going to have light, and therefore will not grow. As an added benefit, the newspapers will decompose over time, becoming organic compost. One way to enhance the appearance of your garden if you are using newspapers is to add an additional layer of mulch.

A useful technique for organic gardening, is to gently disturb your seedlings by using your fingers or a piece of cardboard one or two times daily. This probably sounds like an odd recommendation, but research has shown that this technique encourages more plant growth, than no petting at all.

If slugs are disrupting the balance of your garden, you can diminish their population by using a beer trap. Bury a glass jar in your garden so that its open mouth is level with the top of the soil. Pour enough beer into the jar to fill it below an inch from the top. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.
